You got your post-apocalyptic in my voluptuous

As you know, the last time "post-apocalyptic" and "voluptuous" were used in the same sentence was when the Bogue Chitto High School for the Fat mounted a stage version of Blade Runner.

But today I received the covers of two upcoming movies by eminent pornographers Carlos Batts and Maria Beatty, who are releasing their Voluptuous Biker Babes and Post-Apocalyptic Cowgirls this week.

Batts, whose muse is his wife, the zaftig and incendiary April Flores, and Beatty, whose noir lesbian fare is shot everywhere from L.A. to Tucson to France, have remarkably similar styles when you think about it. Bodies become art objects rather than merely surfaces for fluid spray. After their movies I am left thinking, "Did I just watch a porn movie?"

Perhaps to combat this not-unreasonable concern, here is another image from Voluptuous Biker Babes. That's Otto Bauer underneath Audrey Hollander, keeping her from flying off into space.

Beatty employed longtime friend Lydia Lunch to provide the soundtrack for Cowgirls. Lunch is a post-apocalyptic Renaissance artist herself, having worked with everyone from Richard Kern to Thurston Moore to Exene Cervenka.

Lunch has ridden the porn pendulum from the ortho-feminist "porn is degrading to women" past Zero to "No pornography exploits women," (she said). "It exploits men. It’s the men that are made to look stupid, silly and ridiculous, chasing after the golden elixir. Women look beautiful, do what they wanna do and get paid for it."

As there are (probably) no men in Post-Apocalyptic Cowgirls, we'll see if anyone looks foolish chasing the golden elixir.

Batts and Co. will be signing copies of Voluptuous Biker Babes tonight from 7-10 at Book Soup on Sunset Blvd.

Lesbians, civil rights infringement, and The Crash Pad

Even as San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsome's "It's gonna happen; whether you like it or not!" pro-same-sex marriage soundbite was played over and over to incite fear among a homophobic populace to ban gay marriage in California, lesbians in a Bay Area apartment were secretly taping each other in direct violation of their civil rights.

Blowfish Video's The Crash Pad series is an especially compelling collection of vignettes about an apartment with a finite number of keys but an endless supply of Sapphic hookups that, like Netflix rentals, are limited to a few units at a time.

While a shadowy figure videotapes the women's lusty encounters and reports back to an unseen benefactor, keys to the Crash Pad are well-guarded commodities.

Talking of Ani DiFranco

What's great about this series is that certain things aren't explained on purpose, leaving it up to the viewer to wonder who changes the toilet paper, who buys the milk, and who pays the gas bill. Why are the trysts being digitized and uploaded? Who are they being sent to? Maybe it's you.

If you have ever been to San Francisco, you know that the rafters are dripping with lesbians having sex everywhere. On the trains, in the coffeeshops, in the park. They are as close-knit now as when they landed in 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In San Francisco, if you are not a lesbian, you are Donald Sutherland, and Donald Sutherland is not the person to be in San Francisco, let me tell you. (Brooke Adams is another story.)

Among the Crash Pad's visitors are Princess Donna and Lorelei Lee. Following Lee's de facto retirement from Porn Valley, she has become Lesbiandom's forbidden fruit bombshell, appearing here and in Madison Young videos as a resident femme temptress, or femmeptress.

"This feels more natural than five guys coming on your face," said Lee. Ouch.

If you are a straight porn consumer and feel like having your sensibilities upended all the while comforted by a few familiar faces and the confident directing of Shine Louise Houston, buy one of the Crash Pad movies.

Watch The Crash Pad here.

Believing the strangest things, loving the Sex Mannequin

The beauty of Maria Beatty's simple Sex Mannequin is that there is just enough left unexplained in the movie to make the subtle, naturally lit scenes between Dylan Ryan and London more meaningful.

The rule in porn (and it's a good one) is that it's a good idea to not leave anything up to the imagination. Sex Mannequin is a nice exception. The choice to leave something out is different from leaving something out by mistake and then saying it was a choice.

Like Pinocchio and Andrew McCarthy, Ryan's mannequin comes to life as London and immediately begins topping from the bottom. "Harder!" she yells, before the pair reverse roles. The role reversal is important because, well, the movie ends sadly.
