Porn elbow: Mena's POV past clouds tennis career
I spoke with Geoff Mena, occasionally known as Chef Jeff, who last month was fired from his job at an Arizona community recreational facility when a "concerned parent" found out, via a Google search, that Mena had worked in porn.

"(Porn is) a legal profession," Mena said, "and my (now) former boss knew all about it."

Mena has been Elegant Angel's website designer, a KSEX porn jockey, a director, and an occasional POV performer. He also maintained mainstream websites and had a diverse resume that could easily have had the porn massaged out of it.

"But porn isn't something I hid," he said.

Last December, Mena decided to get out of porn and seek another line of work.

"I was a tennis professional for 12 years prior to getting into the adult entertainment industry," Mena (seen above with Anna Kournikova) said. "I always told myself that if I ever wasn't happy with what I was doing, that I would get back into tennis. That time came and I got back into it and landed that job."

Mena, who lives in Buckeye, AZ, got a job as a tennis pro and administrator at the new rec center in the nearby town of Surprise. His boss, John Austin, was a friend and knew of Mena's past porn affiliation.

Mena got the job in August and the concerned parent sent the letter on August 30 (read it here). This was a Thursday. His boss told him about the letter the next day, and Mena spent the weekend being nervous.

"The writing was on the wall," Mena said, unable to admit that the writing was actually in a letter. He dusted off a domain he owned, I Bang Porn Stars.com, and made a content deal with an affiliate company.

"What can porn stars learn from tennis?" I asked.

"Nothing in particular," he said.

Mena was fired on September 11. Arizona can terminate employment "for no reason", Mena said, "unless there is a specific reason."

Illegal reasons could be age, race, or sexual orientation.

"My feeling is that they fired me for a particular reason - my affiliation with adult entertainment," Mens said. "But they said there was no reason."

"Can a porn affiliation be construed as an extension of one's sexual orientation?" I asked.

"Well, it definitely says you're comfortable with your sexuality," Mena said.

I think this is true for some people, and I'm willing to believe it is true of Mena. But I know plenty of people in porn who are decidedly uncomfortable with their sexuality, as I've met several people in the psychiatric profession who are crazy, priests who don't know God, and sous chefs who can't julienne a carrot.

Mena has been talking with attorneys, but can't afford to pay one. The loss of his job forced him out of his apartment, he said, and he is not sure about his stamina to pursue a legal challenge against the town of Surprise.

"You have to have money to sue someone," he saidd, "even if you know you're right."

While he ponders his options, Mena continues shooting for IBangPornStars.

"Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in," he did not say.
