35 years of grass on the field

I was talking with the courtly Tod-Hunter and breast-man Steve Nelson the other night. Both are my respected elders. They got into a discussion about Playboy Playmate Liv Lindeland and the first time pubic hair was seen in a magazine (turns out Tod was right by a year).

Both talked about what a sensation that was at the time, and I marvelled at how times had changed. I saw a pubic hair in my McMuffin just this morning.

Oddly enough, we still very rarely see pubic hair, but that is because it is shaved off.

On Thursday, November 02, 2006, you had a nice article "35 years of grass on the field", talking about pubic hair in Playboy. I wanted to share with you a tidbit from Wikipedia that took me by surprise.

The very first appearance of pubic hair in Playboy supposedly occurred in the 50's not the 70's. The February 1956 Playmate spread of Marguerite Empey contained an underwater photograph - taken by Russ Meyer! - that showed pubic hair. The photograph is available on Playboy's web site.

Unfortunately, I have no way of confirming that this photograph was actually published in the February 1956 issue. Playboy's website often contains unpublished photographs of its playmates.
