FSC wants ghetto for .KIDS

The Free Speech Coalition is fighting the proposal of two Congressmen to require ICANN to mandate a .xxx domain extension for certain kinds of content.
The bill, titled the “Cyber Safety for Kids Act of 2006,” requires the Department of Commerce within 30 days after enactment to direct ICANN to approve a top-level “international” domain for “material that is harmful to minors, such as [a] domain name ending in .xxx,” and establishes a timeline of 60 days for ICANN to “commence and complete” the application process for the establishment of the new domain.
The FSC believes such a bill would "ghettoize" adult content and force arbitrary regulation on an industry that is more or less self-regulating. Furthermore, the organization believes that such legislation will do nothing to protect children.

Instead, the FSC suggests creating a domain for everyone else, such as .KIDS, which would ensure that all content is minor-friendly.

"Shoe's on the other foot, bitches," no one involved with the FSC said.
