Howard Stern finished broadcasting in a manner by which someone might hear him by accident today, and will begin airing satellite radio shows with Sirius on January 9. Sirius subscribers will pay an additional $12.95 a month for the privilege.Stern's deal with Sirius, which requires the development of two new channels, is worth half a billion dollars (AVN estimates $6 billion), from which comes overhead, salaries, snacks, etc.
Stern has given a lot of exposure to the adult industry, adding to its legitimacy through repetition, even if no one can point to a single episode of Stern and say, "he sure made the porn business look credible."
Paul Fishbein and Jesse Jane barely made it out of Stern's studio after their appearance there last month before Howard featured dyspeptic women and a guy with a vomit fetish. "I really want you to stay," Stern said to poor Jesse.
On his last "free" show in rain-soaked, partially-transit-struck New York this morning, Stern said he had broken "every rule known to radio and mankind."
