The Free Speech Coalition has joined the American Civil Liberties Union and the First Amendment Lawyers' Association to file an amicus brief on behalf of a Florida webmaster who gave soldiers access to one of his porn sites in exchange for graphic war photos he used for Internet-based protest literature.Lakeland resident Christopher Wilson solicited "gruesome" war snapshots from soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan in exchange for access to an amateur porn site. Wilson was jailed when the transactions were discovered by U.S. military officials.
His arrest was for posting the amateur porn, which has not been ruled obscene, rather than for posting the war photos.
“This case is typical of how obscenity law can be misused to censor unpopular speech,” said Michelle L. Freridge, Executive Director of the Free Speech Coalition.
