Mary Carey and Mark Kulkis shared the Bronze in the 2005 Bimbo Awards for their comments about their involvement in a GOP fundraising dinner at the White House."I probably have less sex with those guys than any college girl," Carey said, confusingly, of Republicans.
The Bimbo Awards were created by Reagan administration media relations director Merrie Spaeth to recognize celebrities whose statements made people believe just the opposite. This year's winner was Rafael Palmeiro for his thoughts on his steroid use.
That Carey had a better showing in the Bimbo Awards than she did in the California gubernatorial race is important. That things like the Bimbo Awards continue to drive sales of Carey's catalogue (let's hope they do) is again validation of the fact that in porn, all publicity is good publicity.
There is no ceiling of abomination when nudity is involved. If Carey comes third in the Bimbo Awards, the first thing people say is, "I want to see Mary Carey naked." If Hitler and Eva Braun made a sex tape in the bunker, people would buy it. George Bush would regain solid political footing if his daughters would just appear in one JM video.
Still, it's sad that Kulkis got lumped in there. Kulkis, who said, "We're not the freakish demons people make us out to be ... I'm not a creep with a coke spoon around his neck," should have realized that a Republican fundraiser was no place to be clever.
