Italy has passed a 25 percent tax on the sale of pornography to decrease the growth of its deficit.This is different from tariffs in states like Kansas which are described as sin taxes and which are designed to decrease the flow of pornography.
I feel better about the Italian tax, oddly enough, even though it is 15 percent higher than proposed porn taxes in Kansas and Idaho.
The Italian government estimates that porn netted about 1.1 billion euros ($1.3 billion US) in 2004. AVN's estimate was about 9.6 billion euros.
